What does your grandma drive? Is it a stereotypical “grandma car”? Or is it something unconventional?

I’m fortunate to have a healthy grandma, even though she’ll be turning 88 in February. I’m glad, since I lost my mom at a young age. Honestly, you can’t tell my grandma is as old as she is based on her health, her mind, and her life. She is as active and with it as ever. We are blessed.

Anyway, my grandma has a 2012 Cadillac SRX Performance Collection. It has 53,774 miles as of today. She bought it in April 2014 with 32,000 miles.

Needless to say, it spends most of its time in the garage.

I love driving it. I always joke with her and ask how “my Cadillac is doing.”

My grandma on my moms side no longer drives. The last car my grandma had on my dad’s side?

One grandmother owns a Lexus NX.

One owns a white Altima.

One owns an Infiniti EX something.

Bonus round: guess which one owned an NA Miata until about five years ago.

Mine went from Torrent —> Altima —> Rogue. I feel like she would have something cooler if she didn’t have to shuttle her other half around all the time.

I lost my grandma when I was 9 or 10, ( I was never all that close to my other one) but the last car she drove was probably something like this:

My grandpa was a Plymouth man and he bought an ex-police car, with the 440 naturally. Now my grandma was a tiny little thing who survived polio and had to sit on a blanket to see over the hood so I’m sure the sight of her driving a big Plymouth had to be fairly amusing.

My grandmother doesn’t drive anymore, but my grandfather drives a 2015ish Lexus NX whatever (the Rav 4 based things). Nice red color, has like 12k on it, but probably not an original body panel left below the windshield . It has been in like 5 or 6 parking lot incidents and low speed accidents at intersections. He needs to stop driving...

My surviving grandma stopped driving a few years ago, at around age 90. Her last car was an 03 Taurus which got maybe 40K miles in ~13 years, primarily from my uncle driving her to visit my mom. They were going to sell it, but after I showed them it has more intrinsic value than market value, my uncle took it and sold his miled up LeSabre instead.

My late paternal grandma had a thing for Cavaliers, and owned several, her last car was a Cavalier ca. 2003 (I think she passed in 2006 at age 93-94, and drove until the end).

M y father’s mother passed when I was about 4 and I don’t remember her ever driving, but my mother’s mother (also long passed) had a grey Chevy Corsica as her last car.  It was an awfully junky car, I remember it being super plasticky and it was always full of cigarette ashes from my grandfather - but it did have the v6 which sounded pretty cool for the time...  Image is not hers, but pretty much exactly like it.

An SRX? I don’t blame you. I’d love to have this one. It’s powerful, smooth, and has lots of luxury goodies. It’s a bit behind on techy stuff, being a 2012, but overall a very nice ride.

I’d say my grandmas car is pretty stereotypical. I’ll say, for an 87 year old, this 2010  Prius is probably the best choice, although we’re starting to debate taking it away after she totaled a 16 year old’s older model Prius with it.

Fun fact about her car, my grandpa actually won the thing in a raffle at our synagogue back in 2009. This thing only cost $100 in raffle tickets plus state taxes. It was my grandfathers car until he passed. Then she decided to take it rather than keep paying a lease payment on her former Santa Fe.

My mom’s mother traded in some boxy old boat car I don’t remember for a new red Escort GT like this:

Personally, I think an inspired choice.

My dad’s mom died getting t-boned in some late-’70s/early-’80s Pontiac after she ran a light, but I don’t remember the model. Wear you seat belts kids.
